Summary: Researchers have become important partners in efforts to improve the justice system. By collecting and analyzing data, researchers provide credible answers to key questions, such as: where is crime occurring? What are the drivers of crime? Is a program or initiative meeting its goals? Where is an initiative falling short and what modifications might improve it? And ultimately, what lessons can an initiative—even a failed one—teach others?
